First ALEC bill of the 2013 Oregon Legislative session:
In the December 2012 special session called by the Governor, several House and Senate Committees discussed other bills besides the one giving special tax treatment to Nike. Among them was this gem, heard by the Senate Judiciary Committee on December 10th: LC305. LC305 has provisions similar to ALEC's Castle Doctrine Act, also known as the 'Stand your ground law'. It states that "A person may use deadly physical force.... When the person reasonably believes it necessary to prevent the commission of arson or a felony by force and violence by the trespasser."
These Legislators are members of ALEC -
the American Legislative Exchange Council
"The Koch Brothers, big tobacco, insurance companies, and the drug industry: all behind the shadowy corporate front group known as the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). On the surface, ALEC is mostly comprised of thousands of state legislators, each paying a nominal fee to attend ALEC retreats and receive model legislation. In reality, corporations pay ALEC a king’s ransom to access legislators to distribute radical legislation that puts corporate interests over American workers and consumers. "
